ABOUT SHAUNNA

A RETURN TO THE STAGE

Described as having a ‘rich range’ and ‘clear and beautiful tone’, Shaunna Lucas is a passionate soprano and artist. Shaunna’s most recent engagement was as a finalist in the Opera Connecticut American Opera Idol competition. She will make her debut with CT Lyric Opera as the Aunt in Madama Butterfly in 2024. She also appeared with The Art Song Society Preservation Society of NY in their Make Music Day concert and with Boston Singers Resource as a featured artist on their Rage Arias and Mad Scenes concert. Prior to that she appeared in a virtual production as Anne Boleyn in Libby Larsen’s, “Try Me, Good King” with Opera on Tap Maine. Other recent engagements include Signora Naccarelli in A Light in the Piazza with City Theater and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni at Greater Worcester Opera. She also performed in a workshop production at Northwestern University as Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus.

As a recitalist, she has performed with the Rossini Club in Portland, Maine and at the Academy of Holy Names in Albany, NY. Shaunna is the Co-Founder was a featured singer of Opera on Tap Maine.

She received an Honorable Mention in the Progressive Musicians competition in 2021 and competed as a semifinalist in the Music International Grand Prix Competition in 2022. Shaunna was also awarded First Prize in the MAP International Music Competition in 2022.

Shaunna was classically trained at the highly selective Cincinnati Conservatory of Music in the studio of Tom Baresel. It was there that she performed scenes as Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro and Sandman in Hansel und Gretel. Upon graduation, to fulfill her desire for community service, Shaunna pursued a career in the Assisted Living field, specializing in the care of residents living with dementia and Alzheimers. Her love for classical singing has led her back to the stage!

Recent teachers include Dana Lynne Varga (Boston) and Ted Taylor (NYC). In 2021, she began a Masters in Vocal Pedagogy program at the University of Southern Maine under the tutelage of Dr. Malinda Haslett.

Shaunna is from NY and currently based in West Hartford, CT where she is pursuing many artistic avenues on a regional level. Aside from singing, she runs a private voice studio and cares for her 4 year old daughter.
